Learn a new language

After practically being forced into French classes through elementary and secondary school, I guess I always thought I would end up fluent in French - WRONG! After more than 10 years of classes I can honestly say I do not understand or speak any French. I know a lot of words mind you, but a lot of good that does me when trying to actually communicate.

I would love to be able to actually speak and understand a language other than English, which some would argue (my dad would be included) that I am not all that good at anyway. Considering Den is Korean, I think that would be an obvious, but difficult choice for me to set my sights on. I am on my way, I have a translation dictionary and the will to learn. Somehow I think this is going to be an ordeal but we'll see. So now that I have actually written down that this is a goal I should get started learning words that are not only related to foods I like to eat - that doesn't count anymore.

Good idea or bad? We have no shade in our back yard and I think something like this may be a good option.

Hawaii

Paradise. Need I explain this one?

Mt Kilimanjaro

While in University I took a lot of African history courses. Since then I have wanted to visit many places I learned about. The top on the Africa list for me is to see and if I can (physically and mentally : ) ) climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. One day...

Egypt

Since I was five I have been obsessed with all things Egyptian. Don't know why, just have been. It is this fascination that started my fascination with history, which led to my decision to get a degree in history. One day I need to visit Egypt.

Research for the perfect backyard

I am loving the HGTV website as I'm doing some research for my back yard transformation. I feel like if I talk about it enough it will motivate me to actually follow through. : )

The love of my life - the little fury one

This is Ewok. He's 2 1/2 now. Den and I got him when he was 7 weeks old and only 1.5 pounds. He's 9 pounds now and a good 5 ounces overweight my vet tells me...ooops!
But he's still the cutest dog in the world!

Patricia's Bachelorette Party May 10

Here's the whole gang out at Patricia's Bachelorette party! Good times. I just can't believe she's getting married! It's like we are adults now or something...weird.

Gardening 101

It's time to kick my yard, front and back, into shape. The only problem is I don't know how to do that. I think it may be funny to chronicle my progress as I go through this process. I have traditionally hated gardening, but it's funny how your perspective changes when the garden is actually your own.

Right now my back yard has more weeds than grass. I just found this tip from HGTV.ca (my fav) to help me sort it out.

Your yard is a weed wasteland.
How to fix it: Are there more weeds than blades of grass? If so, cut your lawn more often, which will help grass grow and will cut down on weeds (be sure to rake up any grass cuttings so weeds don’t reseed). Dig out weeds by hand and fill space with soil, grass seed and sand. Spray other weeds directly with weed killer (avoid hitting the grass). For weeds in the sidewalk, pour boiling water, then fill cracks with sand. For weeds between flowers, consider spreading wood chips between the flowers, which can help keep weeds at bay (so you don’t have to pull them!).

RANT, Driving

Sometimes I think people should be forced to take a driving test every year.

Today reaffirmed this thought for me. Today it rained in my city and when it rains, it is like people forget how to drive or maybe they just forget all common sense and drive like crazy people. All of a sudden, yellow lights are seen as green lights, cutting off other drivers is just a survival tactic, parking lots are mayhem. I just don't get it. People get it together!
