Today may have changed my life

So being my usual dramatic self, I had an experience today that I feel changed my life. I set off at 7AM this morning, ok 7:15AM; I travelled no more than 25 minutes before traffic slowed to a crawl and then to a stop. I could see flashing lights ahead so I knew there was some sort of accident or construction or something. Not soon after we stopped I heard sirens and see flashing lights coming up behind on the shoulder. First an ambulance, then a police car, then 2 fire trucks, then another ambulance - at this point I'm worried and scared. This is a big accident. And by the looks of things people are hurt and badly. Next the LHSC helicopter is circling around. All the while I'm listening to the radio telling me about the accident up ahead and that the highway has been closed down at least for a few hours.

I was on my way to meetings in Mississauga, but didn't care at all that I was going to miss them. I was seriously happy to be alive. I know dramatic right? But really, I was probably 5 minutes behind that accident happening, because I was running late, and for some reason those people got hurt today and not me. When I drove by the accident and the part of the vehicles that were left, I have no idea how anyone survived that crash. I don't know if anyone did. I do know my fingers were crossed then and crossed now that those people are ok. And I also know that I feel lucky to be alive and I know that I feel a little different about things in my life at this moment: work, my family, my life, all of it. Sometimes it takes an event to put things into perspective...time for change.

Update: So SO SO glad to hear that no one was killed from this morning's accident! An elderly -man was airlifted to hospital and another injured, but non-life threatening injuries. Phew!

Why do people smoke?

Having never been a smoker I'm sure I really just can't understand it; but really what is so appealing? I recently sat in a room next to a smoker for an entire afternoon and I could hardly concentrate on the key note speakers because I was so distracted by the ash tray sitting beside me. Perhaps I have an ultra sensitive nose? Or maybe I just let the annoyance build and build and held a grudge (likely), but really, I just think this person smelled. This made me think of all new questions: Do smokers know they smell? Maybe they know and just don't care? Granted not all smokers smell to the same degree, but they still all do smell somewhat. I don't get it.

You would smell better, have more money and likely live longer - what's the down side to NOT smoking?

Thank you

I want to thank my dear friend Amy Turner for creating my new branding. I asked Ames to make me something fun that represents me; and there we have it. Thank you Amy! You're the best and I owe you one!

Today I'm thinking...

Take time to breath. Take 5 minutes out of your day, and just breath.

Rogers does it again

Well, I don't know why I'm surprised. Or am I surprised? Or simply beaten down by the constant disappointment that is Rogers.

On Monday I phoned into Rogers to upgrade my plan. That's right, add money to my plan. I needed long distance adding and I constantly go over on my "day time" (anything before 9PM -seriously Rogers day time?) minutes. Well after the not so helpful CSR added these things to my account she nicely deleted my data plan at the same time. So from about noon on Monday I had no email. This was wonderful considering I was in Mississauga on business awaiting several critical emails that needed actioning immediately. So, when I had time later that afternoon, while driving back to London from Mississauga, I call Rogers back. I asked if they maybe did something while they updated my plan. Yes, of course they deleted my plan. So the new CSR added it back. Or so I thought.

The next morning I go into work and call our helpdesk. They have to reactive me in our system so my email starts pushing through to my phone. Well the helpdesk can't seem to get me back onto our system. No idea what's wrong! So after spending about an hour on the phone with them trying to work it out, then another hour later in the day, our helpdesk guy says I'm going to look into this further. So we have to open an internal ticket and get more people involved. It is now Thursday, no email for 3 full days, my helpdesk has been working on it and now has talked to RIM. RIM of course comes back and says it's Rogers fault. I get an email tonight from my helpdesk, please call Rogers, they have not set you up properly it seems.

So now, I have been on hold for the better part of 43 minutes and 31 seconds while they try and fix all the problems they created. And why? Because 2 CSRs on Monday were careless with what they were doing.

I may sound harsh, but I work in customer service and I am blown away by the level of crazy at Rogers. I just wish Rogers would understand the time and money wasted this week for me not having email, my helpdesk working on fixing a problem that isn't ours, and the time spent trouble-shooting all week for me, my helpdesk, RIM and the Rogers people.

The beauty of this is that when I eventually get off the phone tonight with Rogers, (I'm back on hold after being told part of my plan that was deleted is now not available and I have choose something else - priceless) I will be no further ahead. I will have been offered nothing for my time or money and all of it is in vain because they don't care and I'll never get my time back (or the money I will now have to invest in an anger management program)

sigh, Boy I hope the Rogers Customer Service People read this blog entry like they did my last one. Can't wait what they would have to say about this one. Just try, I dare you!

Too Good to be True??

Better legs and a nicer bum with every step?? I'll take a pair!!
I just heard about these Easy Tone Reeboks, so fun! There are tons of colours and they work you out just by walking around? I walk all the time! :)

Who doesn't run errands? Grocery shop? Walk the dog? Go to the pharmacy? Why not wear these shoes? In my world - I would like to take all that I can get thank you.

This is a great idea! The website is fun too. Over and out, I'm off to the mall for some new shoes!

GLEE

Glee premiered tonight for its second season. I was a late convert to Glee, but what a good show! I have to say, Sue Sylvester is one of my all time favourite TV characters. She is right up there with Barney from How I Met Your Mother and Ari from Entourage - hilarious!!

Tulips for Parkinson's

April is Parkinson's awareness month and last year my office supported by donating money in exchange for tulips. Parkinson's has its own special tulip that is white and pink - beautiful!

So, Victoria and I went to work one Saturday afternoon in the fall and planted 200 Parkinson's tulips in our office garden. Here is what they look like now...

How important are your eyes?

On Sunday April 11th I am running in the Run for Retina at Harris Park in London. This charity run is in support of the St. Joseph's Health Care Foundation. This run is sponsored by the Running Room, which I have been a member since last year when I started to run with their Learn to Run program. (What a great program by the way...!) So on Sunday I will be joining the masses in support of this great cause! If you would like to sponsor me, just click on the Run for Retina link below and follow the Running Room logo. All you need is my name :)
